Artist Statement

Artist Statement

Ozito Azul is the name of my childhood stuffed animal, who has remained by side my whole life. His name is Spanish for "Little Blue Bear". His animated short is an appreciation for the oldest friend I have.

For these animations I went back to the time when my passion and curiosity for design and the arts first began to grow. I drew inspiration from old emotions, distorted memories, and the small details and influences from those impressionable years.

The other animation attempts to capture the odd experience of emotions that don't seem to belong to any particular memory, and how some of the strangest details are the ones that stick with us the longest.

Every Project, whether an abstract visual or a personal narrative, is a part of my on going pursuit of great stories and great visuals.

Modeling

Modeling

Every 3D project begins the same way, once the idea is sketched out into a storyboard, I move into modeling the main subjects. When a base asset exists that I can adapt, I'll use it as a starting point; when one doesn't I hand model from scratch. Either way, the model gets shaped to fit the specific story it's being built for.

Texture & Environment

Texture & Environment

Blender fluency lets me build the texture and UV maps to the level the story calls for, sometimes hyper real, sometimes stylized. Once the subject is reading right, the focus shifts to lighting and environment design, which carry as much narrative weight as the subject itself.

Animation & Detail

Animation & Detail

With the animation blocked out the subject and lighting locked in, I move into the layer of small details, background motion, subtle environment shifts, and the secondary movement that immerse the viewer into the world.

The finished deliverables for an animation can include hero stills like the poster created for this short, alongside the fully rendered video itself. Below: alongside the poster is the other animation exploring the emotional territory described in the artists statement above.
